On Cloud 7!

I was excited at all the initial reviews and news that came out with regards to Windows 7, its performance and features etc. So when the RC came out on May 5th I decided to try it out myself and a few things noteworthy were:

  • The installation was a breeze with no driver problems (BTW: I installed it on my HP dv2500t laptop which I consider to be the worst in the universe)
  • The installation was complete at a quick time of approximately 45 minutes compared to the 2 hours it took me to install Vista Ultimate from scratch.
  • The User Interface was pretty much like Vista but the enhancements introduced are pretty cool! The only that I liked the most are the jump lists.
Overall I am excited about the comeback that Microsoft is making after its problems with Vista. I hope "7" turns out to be as solid as XP!

I will keep posting new stuff on Windows 7 as and when I discover new features. Stay tuned!

The traditional "Thoppukkaranam" is now "Super Brain Yoga"

This video amazed me at how advanced our ancestors (Indian ancestors) were in terms of keeping body, mind and soul sharp. I remember doing this as a kid in a "Pillaiyaar kovil" near my house! and now it is Super Brain Yoga in America!!

The dark truth behind Slumdog Millionaire

I was equally overwhelmed as anyone, when Slumdog Millionaire won a bunch of awards at the Oscars this year. That is when I decided to watch the movie and grabbed tickets for the next day. But what I saw in the theatre was a sad story full of negativity about what happens in the slums of Mumbai. I am really working hard at understanding what the Oscars panel saw in the movie! Remove the negative events shown as happenings in the slums of Mumbai and the movie is nothing but a pale love story that deserves nothing but a DVD release.

There are many movies that I would really like "talented directors" like Danny Boyle to take a look at: Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par to name a couple.

And it is really strange to see the sudden publicity that Dev Patel and Frieda are getting! On magazine covers just after one movie?

The slum"dog" getting some protests in India I feel is only anger misdirected. The real anger that enrages Indians really is about the negative events that are shown in the movie!

Personally I was so disgusted watching this movie that I had to walk out of the theatre in the middle of the movie.

A Web 2.0 Directory

I recently got to visit Go2Web20.net a great site that has all the upcoming Web2.0 based sites listed category-wise. It is a great place to be if you are really into Web 2.0 and need some great ideas to go about your Web 2.0 design/strategy.

Are you into Open Source?

With a lot of open source tools emerging as great utilities in projects, I thought of checking out the web for any sites that would carry information mapping commercial products to open source tools. One such site I found was this site (Osalt). A great site mapping most of the tools used in day to day technology world to some of their open source equivalents. Again, this site is more of a personal choice of mine and does not reflect any marketing towards the same :). Check it out and post more of such sites if you know any!

Happy browsing!

Man! The greatest of great Gods

It took me a really long time to get myself read the book "The Da Vinci Code". It does talk a lot about "Christianity", the way it evolved etc. I guess there have been enough controversial discussions about this till now. However beyond all the negativity generated by the facts in the book, the positive side of the "Constantinization of the Bible" should not be overlooked. It reveals the tremendous power that mankind has, the greatest of his abilities being his ability to create anything and everything that he desires! Even God.

The immense power of the Human mind and creativity that man is bestowed with, is truly remarkable. Imagine a whole religious cult that has survived (and is still continuing to survive) so many thousands of years being man-created! This is obviously only a fraction of the plethora of hidden facts that have gone unnoticed over several past generations.

Its me!!

Well not to be too modest, the best way I can describe myself is "A passionate, free-spending, careless, happy-go-lucky guy"
